The Complete Grade 9 AQA GCSE Spanish Anki System

I spent over two years creating and refining this Spanish Anki deck, using it as the core system of my revision. The result: 199/200 (99.5% - Grade 9) on AQA GCSE Spanish in 2026.

This deck is split up into subdecks which correspond to the modules and submodules of the AQA GCSE Spanish Higher Student Book (written by Chris Lillington, Leanda Reeves, and Silvia Gomez), allowing you to approach your revision in a structured manner. Within the deck, there is a separate 'AQA Specification - Additional Vocabulary' subdeck which covers words not covered in the main textbook modules but which are featured in the specification which are essential to learn, especially for the listening and reading papers. I learnt these after learning all the module content as they contain more niche, non topic-specific words.

The Spanish Anki deck also contains a subdeck 'Essay Phrases'. This contains the phrases and sentences which I learnt specifically for the writing paper, helping me to achieve 50/50. Vocabulary from the rest of the subdecks are also useful for this paper, but the 'Essay Phrases' subdeck generally contains more complex words, structures and phrases beyond the syllabus which were useful for achieving full marks in both essays. In addition, there is an 'Oral Exam' subdeck, containing phrases which I learnt specifically for the speaking paper, also helping me to achieve 50/50.

The majority of grammar required for the GCSE is featured in the 'Grammar' subdeck, but some additional grammar is featured within the different modules.

A subdeck 'Year 9 base Content' is also included. This is vocabulary which I learnt prior to starting the main GCSE Spanish course in Year 10. It contains the foundation of my Spanish revision, including simple words which are featured as a part of more complex phrases in the module-specific decks. Using this subdeck is not strictly necessary but it makes the rest of the module decks easier to learn.

*Please note that Module 1 (Diviértete) is broken down into two sections rather then being separated by each individual submodule due to the ease and similarity of the vocabulary.

My Spanish component breakdown was:

Speaking - 50/50 (100%)

Reading - 50/50 (100%)

Listening - 49/50 (98%)

Writing - 50/50 (100%)

Alongside past papers and exam style practice, this Anki deck was the only source of my GCSE Spanish revision. I used it daily for 300 days by the time I sat my first GCSE and it contains all of the content I needed to ace the course. This deck contains over 2700 cards including vocabulary, grammar, essay and oral phrases.

Although the flashcards are designed specifically for the AQA syllabus, the majority of content is applicable to other major UK exam boards including Edexcel.

There are plenty of free vocabulary lists and flashcard decks available online. However, when testing these out when I was in Y10 and Y11, I found they were often without structure, making it hard to progress through them as I studied the course in school. Moreover, I found many decks to be generic with excessive vocabulary - vocabulary not featured on the specification which are not useful to any of the exam papers. This is because, these decks are generally designed for the old specification, where the potential vocabulary needed was much broader. Contrastingly, my deck has been crafted specifically for the new specification, and with the needs of the various different papers in mind. As a student who actually sat and aced the GCSE Spanish exam, this Anki system is the resource I found most valuable.

In addition, this deck is proven by results. Unlike readily available decks, this deck has been shaped by my own experience of studying and sitting the new-specification Spanish GCSE papers. The mark I achieved is a testament to the thorough and comprehensive nature of this Spanish Anki system.
